How to Curl Your Hair with a Hair Straightener / Flat Iron
|
Most people assume that hair straighteners are only for smoothing hair and don’t realize that curling hair with a hair straightener is even an option. There are times when you may want to first smooth your hair out and then curl it and flat irons are perfect for the job.
If you have frizzy or very curly hair, it’s often a good idea to use a hair straightener to curl your hair. You may want to straighten it like normal, first, to get out any frizz or curls, then use the flat iron to give the smoothed hair a controlled curl. There are two methods of curling hair with a hair straightener. |
Method One
Divide your hair into one inch sections as if you were going to straighten it with the flat iron. You can use bobby pins or clips to help keep the hair separated.
Next, place the hair straightener at the top of a section and pull it downwards, then slowly curl the hair up. This will give you a cute flip at the end of your hair. If you want it to curl in, just curl the hair towards yourself instead, being careful not to let the flat iron touch your scalp.
Method Two
This method will give you more twisted curls. Take a one inch section of hair and clamp the hair straightener about one inch or so from your scalp.
Now, bring the flat iron down the length of hair, but twist it as you go. It’s a good idea to spritz on some hairspray beforehand to help your hair take the curl. For a tighter curl, move the iron slower, for looser curls and wavy hair, twist and move it quickly down the length of the hair.
When curling hair with a hair straightener, it’s a good idea to coat the hair first with a heat protective spray. Hair straighteners use heat to make your hair behave and this can wreak havoc if you use a flat iron frequently, so spraying it with a heat protector will help keep your locks healthy.
The next time you need to add a little curl to your hair, remember that hair straighteners can be used to curl hair. No need to have a drawer full of different appliances to get the look you want when one will do the trick.
